Spring Time Friday

Pretty spring fabric bundle from eBay seller. (I added the far left blue from stash).
I'm thinking maybe add a few yellows and make string blocks with bird and bloom fabrics as borders.
Mr Pibbs enjoys sunshine before the blistering summer sun arrives. All critters with dark fur will soon be seeking shade.
Pibbs mostly loves to roll on concrete. He sits at front door and yowls if he cannot get out.
Java enjoys warm sun on front porch too. That huge snapdragon was a volunteer, started growing in February. Roots grew up from under block fencing.
Today is a good day to plant. Not too hot and wind is just a little breezy.
Future garden :) in a wagon.

Snoopy hens want to see what is up. Spring temps and longer sun hours make the girls thrive.

I've been slack on starting to sew those twister blocks. Outside chores and such keep me so busy lately. By evening with supper cooked and cleaned up I'm too tired to sew :( Maybe tonight I can get some strips marked for HST's.

How the Garden Grows- Chickens Too :)

Morning sun coming around on garden box. Lots of weekend rain, the air is heavy with moisture.Hens are keeping hoppers to a minimum. We haven't needed to use bug spray.

Peas, cukes and midget tomato plants.
.No longer am I able to step into the garden.

Surprised at how fast the squash seeds turned into giants.
There are already tiny "squashies" at base of plants.

Chicken morning. Feed is kept locked up at night to discourage mice. The girls are ravenous when let out from coop.I enjoy sitting for a bit and watching them.

Bantam kids all grown up.So happy all are friendly to me, I can pet and pick them up.

Full size Speckled Sussex hen sleeps and roams with bantams. They are kind to her, unlike the other full size hens. She moulted and finally got her spots.

Sadly this Silky & Sussex cross is a roo. Caught him mating with frizzled hen. He will have to go out back with other bachelor roos. Too bad, he was friendly and curious, I was enjoying him very much.
That's life with chickens.

Hoping to finish this scarecrow by Oct 1st. The metal zig-zag foot did not let me see where I was going. Switched to the open toe, I can see but not much control of fabric with less foot. I may switch to a clear plastic zig-zag foot next. This is good practice for applique skills. I'm not concerned if it looks a bit messy, the scarecrow is kinda "rustic" anyways. LOL

Lots of warm days left, the garden is growing fast. I am so happy to see things growing and green. The squash seeds zoomed up and tomato plants in this photo were volunteers growing where I had the pots sitting at edge of drive.Husband pulled them up after a rain and I stuck them in garden plot. All stood tall after the harsh treatment.

Wonky was groomed on Saturday. My DH had to help by holding Wonky. Wonks doesn't like his tail area clipped and tries to sit down. This boy is packed with muscles, it was hard for both of us to keep him up.Now two are groomed and bathed (they smell good and have not rolled in mud yet). Zoey needs grooming but she is sleeping lots, gets tired very quickly. Matilda needs her face and feet clipped, maybe will do that next weekend.

Goofy Buff Leghorn. Both of the hens are flighty and a pain but both give a big white egg almost every day. After the camera flash she ran like heck and squawked for ten minutes.

Been Way Too Busy

I love all things fall and could not resist adding a few sale fabrics to the stash.
These will go perfectly with a panel found on eBay a few weeks ago. (Will share panel photo when I remember where I stashed it!). LOL Guess it won't be a finished project this year.

Pet photo of the day- Mimsy. She seems to blend in quite well. DH has sat on her a few times! Poor Mims.

Planted squash seeds last week, they are growing so fast. This is time of year to re-generate a garden. Waiting for the pea seeds, onions, lettuce, spinach and radishes to sprout. No problem with grasshoppers since the garden box is patrolled by the hens. We decided to have the garden in a bare spot where the hens free range. Wire keeps them from destroying plants.

Woke to a foggy morning, glad I was up early. Huachuca Mountains and entire valley was "socked in".Very rare thing in our part of AZ.
Been busy with painting and poodle grooming. Hope to finish painting the living room this week and sneak in a Wonky Poodle haircut. More about all that later.
