Friday Goings On

On the quilty front....... the pattern is in McCall's Quick Quilts latest magazine.   I was thinking it would make a great kids quilt in some brighter colors.  My stash doesn't have that many different coordinating brights so I ordered charms and a stripe for binding. The blue will be a border to make the quilt more for a boy.
Connecting Threads has the charm dots in their Quilter's Candy selection.  Four charm packs will make a good baby or toddler sized quilt. I'll stash fabrics with magazine.

Outdoor goings on..............  Remember I showed these last year?  Ants are finally catching up with rainy season (it came a bit early).  They build dirt dams around their hill openings to keep rain out.  I call these  "ant volcanoes".  It rains so hard we get sheets of water running over the ground, sometimes over two inches deep.
Ants have to get busy and build these dirt berms to keep the colony from drowning.
Close-up below shows how tiny the ants are, they look like bitty grains of dark brown rice.
Right click on images to open in new tab for a better look (if you so desire). LOL
Ant's eye-view to show how big the volcano sides are compared to the tiny ants crawling up side.  Top edges are drying out but it rained more last night. Keeps the ants very busy.

Can you see silhouette of horse on right side of photo?  (His head is down in a pile of hay). It was getting dark fast.

*******************************************************************************Goodness, goodness. My doctor has me on an anticonvulsant to stifle nerve pain from fibromyalgia.  Some days all I want to do is sleep.  Makes it hard to cut fabric and sew without having to rip-stitch.  Driving could be hazardous on sleepy days so I don't.   I had some things to mail today but they may have to wait for Monday. Dang, sometimes it gets frustrating.
But having all the furkids for company keeps me from feeling lonely and stuck.  What better bunch to hang out with besides my on-line friends? So glad you all are there too.
(Hope my words make sense today !!!).

  4. So sorry you are having those health problems. Furkids always make life better. I never made a quilt but I appreciate their beauty. A wonderful blogger sent me a quilt with white poodles on it after I lost my big boy, OBI.....I so treasure it. I hope you feel better soon, Holly, ICE and the CSTBoyz

  5. I saw that quilt, too, and want to give it a go.

I am not a fan of ants but have to admire their inventiveness. We have to constantly fight the carpenter ants here to keep them from moving in. The damage they can do is annoying as hell, but amazing at the same time! With my shed redo, I found the ants had created mazes in some of the wood that looked like a modern art sculpture. I'd rather not have that kind of art in my door jamb, though!

Hope you are feeling better soon.
