One More Quilt Show Quilt

Another Quilt Show quilt from last Saturday. Gotta love a Churn Dash quilt ;-)  it stopped me in my tracks.  Many of the blocks were made from Old Glory Gatherings fabrics.
I lucked out by finding a layer cake of that line and think I'll be able to get two quilts from it.  The show vendor had many different layer cakes, only one of the Old Glory Gatherings.

Here's my new temporary sewing table.  Right now the sewing armoire is getting readied unburied /de-junked to move into the new room.  I sat a portable ironing board on two tall stools and my short rolling chair fits perfect.  The layer cake will be stashed for now, I want to finish up other projects already started.
Maybe the blue snowball block setting can get figured out this weekend. Gotta sew something, I'm going nuts not creating !!!

This poor Posie girl is exhausted, she slept until 10 this morning.  Her vet visit yesterday did not go well. To start out she jumped past me out of the jeep and landed hard on asphalt.  I did not see that coming.  Her legs collapsed as she landed and I thought she had broken her neck. Turns out she just cut her lip but was in a freaked out frenzy once she stoop up.  Posie's teeth were snapping and she was spinning and falling all over again.
It didn't help that once inside the clinic we had to wait 45 minutes.  A little girl was running loose and wanted to "pet the poodle", I warned her mom this one may nip but mom ignored my warning and her very persistent child.  But, true to a standard poodle's love of children Posie did not nip but let the child pet and hug on her. LOL
(I won't tell you how it took two Army vet techs to restrain Posie and two tries to draw blood). Posie is not the only exhausted critter today, me too!
Clinic should call today about Posie's thyroid blood test results.

Block Setting Idea

While looking thru an old magazine this pattern caught my eye.  Been playing with my blue snowball blocks on design wall, did not want to line these in straight rows like good little snowballs.
Turned on point makes lots of empty space to fill along edges.  I'm wondering if my little pea-brain can figure how to cut borders similar to (but not exactly like) the magazine photo.  Those blocks are 9inch, my blocks are 12inch.  Do I really need to start this top when I have so much other stuff to do?
Maybe ;-)  yes.  While it's a fresh idea and a challenge to figure out- now is the time.
But meanwhile  I really need to work on not cluttering up the quilting frame (and every other flat surface.  That long roll of clear plastic is for covering paper roll pantographs on the frame top.  It was rolled tight so does not want to relax and lay flat.

I'll need to get shelving moved in so everything has a place.  The fibromyalgia flared last week after I helped DH move the heavy frame plus lifting and moving books, boxes and other stuff.  So frustrating, I can only do a little bit each day or my body gets too sore to move at all.

Ugh, not again so soon- I found Dear Posey "messed up" in her kennel yesterday morning.  "It" was pretty much all over her so I had to bath her again and didn't have a chance to go out and purchase a muzzle.  Thank goodness she did not fight this bath as fiercely as her last.  This morning she is still clean.
Guess I'll have to feed the dinner meal early from now on.  Posie always seems to be hungry and wants a before bed bowl of food.  She gets real cranky if her tum-tum feels empty.  What's a poodle mom to do?

Birthday Gift & Local Quilt Show

My Dear sister gifted me this wonderful Laurel Burch bag last month (for my birthday). I'll be careful where and when I  use this special bag.  Don't want to wear it out too fast!  It went to the quilt show with me  ;-)

Laurel Burch is one of my very favorite designers, so sad that she passed a few years ago (2007).

Today there was a local quilt show, over in Sierra Vista where we used to live.  I decided I needed a girls day out and drove the 30 minutes into town.  The show had some wonderful quilts, this string quilt caught my eye.

I'm guessing the maker had a lot of strings to bust because the quilt was made with blocks both front and back.

This quilt is "Bears In My Cabin",  recognized it from a quilt magazine.  It's nice to see simpler quilts like this at shows.  They are surely more my style and I'm glad the maker was not intimidated to enter her lovely masterpiece.
The colors look warm, snugly and inviting.

Another small, simple quilt but what great use of color.  This one inspires me to cut up some of my treasured Laurel Burch fabrics.

This past Friday Old Miss Posie had a good bath.  She's dry, warm and looks like a sleeping Angel.  Not so much an Angel during her bath! Good Heavens, she was just awful  this time while in the tub. She was trying to bite my hands the entire bath.  I stuck the cream rinse bottle near her face so she could bite it. But soon there was a tooth hole and the cream was squishing out.
I do think I'll be looking for a muzzle to put on this girl when she gets so awfully bitey-mouthy. Her face needs clipping, that will be no easy task if she tries to bite.  We understand Posie is fearful since she is so deaf and mostly blind.  The muzzle will help get her clipped quicker, she won't end up chewing a hole in the clipper cord or breaking a tooth.  My hands won't be so full of holes either!

Show-n-Tell & 2013 AZ Blizzard

Pat Sloan is having a link-up party today.  You can go HERE to see what is up ;-)
It seemed fitting for me to show this photo since Pat is talking about "want to do" projects.
The snowball blocks are from a swap at least five years ago.  There are more blocks for another row down the side and then some left over.
Gosh, I'm not sure if I want to turn these into a huge bed quilt or split them up into two lap size. It might be fun to make two and add a solid border for a place to add some applique.

Tucson residents are calling it the Blizzard of 2013.  For us it was just extra snowfall.  Below photo shows snow on Mustang Mountain behind our house. Snow sticking on those rocky craggy mountains is very unusual.

Poodles are having a ball running and chasing in the white powdery stuff.

The hens have no opinion as long as they get fed some scratch and treats.
It's warm out this morning, no heavy coat needed. Bet the snow is mostly gone by tomorrow.

Happy is Word of the Day

It's officially a quilt room!  We moved the HQ-16 and table frame this afternoon. Very exciting to have it this far along. I could actually put a practice top on the frame and start learning.  I just might although I have lots more work to do as far as setting up the rest of this new room. It was so much work to get things moved around in spare bedroom just to move the HQ and frame out.  Didn't want to break it all down so it was a heavy job.  Now a mess left in there to clean up.
Two bookshelves will go on the wall to left of frame. They are not deep shelves so I will have plenty of room to move around.  Sewing armoire goes at other end of room and there should be space for a Treadle just outside kitchen door.
I'm very happy with progress and would do a happy dance but feel too tired and sore.  Hope the activity doesn't cause a fibro flare.  If it does I'll still be happy to just be able to sit and sew hems on the curtains.

Valentines Day

Other Bloggers are showing some really pretty Valentine's Day photos today.  Here I am with an old quilt top shared last year.  LOL  Maybe next year  it will be quilted and bound and I'll show it again.  This is the view from kitchen window into our new porch addition.  The batting piece will stay and serve as a small design wall.
While doing kitchen chores I can ponder what ever blocks are up there.

Snowy chicken coop a few days ago.  This area accumulated about three inches overnight.  The snow was wet and heavy with lots of morning fog.
Chickens amaze me at how they just don't seem to mind the cold.

Backyard view.
Today the sun is shining and temps will be very warm.  It really feels like spring.

Finished Room

Finally. Ready for inspection on Monday.  Already in use, just ironing so far. Cannot fill up the room yet, Have to put the quilting frame and machine in first. DH doesn't want a lot of stuff in the way.  I can understand that   ;-)
It's hard to wait, we won't move anything until next week end. I may sneak the folding cutting table in so I can get caught up on my two sew-along quilt projects (both need cutting).

I've been admiring Spider Web quilts on other Blogs.  Found this grey fabric to use with bright strings (Fat Quarter Shop). It has tiny spiders and webs all over.  Two yards should do it for a big lap size, maybe enough left for binding.
That canvas vine fabric underneath will cover my ironing board. Maybe can finish cover tonight if the elastic doesn't hide from me.

Last Thursday Gypsy went to her final big vet visit for ear cleaning.  They had to sedate her to pull hair and gunk, she still looks sleepy.  I was finally clear to give her a good bath, the tummy stitches are all removed and healing is finished.
We've had cold weather with snow and high wind.  Gypsy warmly snuggled in my old heavy bath robe. She eventually crumpled into a poodle ball and slept for a great while. Later on Gypsy was wide awake and turned into her same bouncy self.
Oh well, I must go finish chores. Today is poodle laundry day- beds and sofa covers.  If it warms up enough I must clean horse stalls. Ugh, that's a big chore.  LOL

Feeling Silly Pet Night

Pibbs is mooshing on his catnip toy.  It ended up rolling behind the curtain but Pibbs did not notice for a while. LOL
Silly Goofus.  Then he sees me.

"Oh, I'll hide behind the curtain".
 Scuffle, shuffle.

"Oh, now do you think she can see me" ?

Na Pibbs, what would give you away?  Carry on  ;-)

Posie says she do not trust this Pibbs kittay.
See that old girls sly smile?

But later Posie is trusting enough to deeply doze.
So deeply she did not notice slowly sliding off the bed. Ssssnnnnoooorrrr !!!
Never a dull moment around here.

Sewing Room Addition Progress

Way back in November we contracted my sewing room addition. It's finally nearing completion. The room just needs flooring put down and a bit of paint touch-ups.
The room has a north exposure, late afternoon sun will barely touch one window.  So to brighten and warm this room I chose a pastel yellow.  I chose bead board to cover the walls to keep a "porchy" feel.
It will be nice to look thru the kitchen window and see quilts hanging along with my sewing table and different quilt projects. Gotta be more tidy in this room. LOL

Outside the addition looks like part of the house.  Metal roof doesn't show very much but it matches the carport addition.
I have plans for the side yard but first I'll be fixing up the room inside.  Hopefully the flooring will be delivered Monday and all work complete by Friday. (These guys work slow- I could scream!).

Gypsy had her spay check-up yesterday. Vet took stitches out where the mammary tumor was removed. Everything healed up nicely and the sweet girl has gained two pounds. Thats a good thing ;-)
She is having a good deep sleep. Vet visits are always stressful for her.
